There are a variety of film adaptations of J. R. R. Tolkien's The Hobbit. One of the first well-known films was the TV Movie made in 1977, an animated version of the story. In 2012, Peter Jackson directed a trilogy version of the novel. The film incorporates additional information outside of The Hobbit, such as the Necromancer who will foreshadow events to come in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, making it much longer than the original story. Though Peter Jackson's films do stray from the original story, the movies stay true to the main plot line, following Bilbo Baggins and his comrades to the Lonely Mountain.
